  Directory108.com - Directory of Directories

Directory108.com is a directory of directories. If you do not want to read what is on this page, go to our initial selection of suitable directories, where you can submit your website.

The directories we listed here have been divided in different categories depending on :
- Size : how many subcategories are present, and how many websites listed per page
- Number of visitors : As estimated by their Alexa ranking
- PageRank : a method of ranking websites, developed by Google Inc.
-Whether they accept free submission, request reciprocal links, offer paid options, or accept only paid submissions.
-Whether they have a 'regional' or 'world' subcategory, that is well developed or not
-Our own grade, depending on the above, and also on the ease of use of the directory in question, and the absence or presence of any deceptive methodology.

Grading : First tier directories are graded 3 or 4 (out of 5, we do not have any web directory graded 5)
Second tier directories are graded 2. The Directory Junkyard consists of directories that have one or more important flaws.

Alexa ranking : A lot of the directories, even the less suitable ones, are graded relatively high in Alexa. Commonly they have a grading <50, 000, which basically stands for 'within the 50,000 most visited websites'. The Alexa ranking is not exactly scientific, and does underrepresent the ranking of 'non-US' based websites. However, we can just state that any website within the first 100,000 ranked, has many thousands of visitors and page views.
[our estimate is that a website ranked around position 100,000 has 3,000-5,000 unique visitors and about 10,000 page views]
Web directories with Alexa ranking less than 50,000 are considered in our 'most visited category'. Web directories with ranking between 50,000 and 100,000 are listed in our 'somewhat less visited category'.

PageRank : PageRank has been developed by Google. It is an attempt to rank websites and webpages by quality. PageRank itself is calculated with a complex mathemathical formula. While the exact formula used, may well be a secret, the essential way of how it is done is relatively well known.
Important are the number of links and the quality of links that point to a particular webpage. Links are basically considered as votes for the site in question.

Important is that once a website or webpage has a high PageRank, it also 'disperses' this PageRank with any links coming of the page. Therefore it is important to try to be listed on webpages that have a high PageRank, since your site will be able to 'eat' some of the PageRank being dispersed. Any benefit from being listed on a page with high PageRank, is attenuated by the number of other links listed on that page. Simply put, it is very good to be listed on a page with high PageRank and few other links. It is not so beneficial to be listed on a page with many tens or even hundreds of links.
Directories with high PageRank of their entry page, probably have lots of visitors and a lot of inbound links with high quality.
When you are listed in a web directory, it is probably even more important to be listed on pages inside the directory with high PageRank.

Free Submission - Paid Inclusions :
If you are using a low budget, and/or your website is non-commercial and you do not expect to make substantial amounts of money from it, you may well want to limit yourself to include your site in directories that offer free submissions. Sometimes you can get listed for free only when you accept a reciprocal link. Unfortunately, even with small directories, you are put on a waiting list, sometimes for many months. An added minus, is that you then easily loose track, and never really know whether you have been listed or not. [just keep on checking]
We created a separate page regarding reciprocal links. It is not a story that will stimulate you to go for them.
It may be beneficial to get listed on a few well selected directories. Paid inclusions are usually processed instantly. It is very important to check whether you have to pay a one-time fee, or whether there are recurrent fees every year.

We have listed ten or so directories that have a well developed regional or world subcategory. Most of the directories listed in our database are U.S. based, and give little or only nominal importance to websites from abroad. However, you have to realize that your website often still can be listed in a suitable subcategory.
